THe Orcs

Orcs of Shadowgate

Orcs are from 5.5 to 6 feet tall, with females being 6 inches shorter. They live in tribal societies and band together to hunt and raid. Orcs are in a constant state of war with most other races, since they feel the need to expand their territory and power constantly. They take great pride in battle experience and will fight whenever possible.

Orcs vary widely in appearance due to the fact that they frequently crossbreed with other species. They typically resemble primitive humans, with a stooped stance and low jutting forehead. They also have a pig-like snout instead of a nose, along with sharp canine teeth and short pointed ears that are almost wolf-like. Potential eye colors run the span of shades generally found in humans, but with reddish pupils characteristic of their infravision. They also have grey-green skin that is covered in dark, course hair.

They are usually not very good with their personal hygiene, and thus are dirty and smelly creatures. They hate direct sunlight, and suffer from the belief that other species are inferior to them, thinking that bullying and slavery is part of the natural order. They are not very dependable and are quick to take offense and break agreements. They are also skilled miners and excellent weaponsmiths, though these skills were probably developed because they are constantly at war with everyone else.

While less beastial in appearance than their savage mountain-orc cousins, these creatures are still quite obviously not human. They are quite hairy, with less porcine faces but still-prominent tusks and wolf-like ears. Their eyes are yellow, orange or red, with black or gray hair, and gray skin with mottled patches. Despite that they lack the fierce appearance of their cousins, this is deceptive – they are equally fierce and savage, but lack the mountain-orc drive to conquer and enslave others. Nomadic tribal creatures, they tend to trust to instinct rather than logic, not hesitating to attack a hated rival despite past defeats.

The oldest of the orc species, and the most numerous, these are the savage conquerers of orc kind. They appear as savage as they act, with tall and stocky frames, porcine snouts and large tusks. They possess red eyes, and usually black hair, which they weave with braids and tiny bones. They wear only crude clothing at best, and decorate their bodies with scars and warpaint. They are a warlike folk, convinced that one day they shall crush the civilized world and take what is rightfully theirs. However, most of their time is spent upon infighting among themselves, preventing them from making sufficient headway on this goal.

Similar in appearance to their mountain-orc cousins, these underdark denizens are possessed of larger ears and huge, pale eyes. Strengthened from many millennia battling for their own survival in the underdark, they tend to be particularly fierce and cunning foes. They share the love for war with mountain orcs, often taking up positions of leadership among their warbands. However, while mountain orcs revel in the act of war, orogs are content after battle to settle back and enjoy the spoils of their efforts.

Descended several generations after the union of an orc and a demon, these orcs are typically shorter and stockier than the common orc. They appear as savage as they act, with bristly hair, horns, and ridges on their head. As is common with other evil-aligned planetouched, tanarukks have the distinctive scent of brimstone around them at all times.

Restricted (level adjusted) races can automatically be rolled on HM accounts in creation. Other un-rollable combinations (atypical alignments or classes for a race) will need to be requested via the avatarmail command, and are usually likewise restricted to HMs and those players with a prior standard of good roleplay. Please be patient – depending if the request is unusual, it may involve some discussion before it is approved or denied, so these applications usually take until the following weekend or so to process. In such submissions, please include a description of your character’s personality and general attitude, as well as at least a moderate summary of their history – it does not need to be a full background, but we must know what has shaped your character, and what their current attitudes and nuances are, in order to approve or deny the request.
