Shadow events

Post by faceless »

The city of Shadow is on high alert after a bag full of heads was found left in the town square. The guards have become highly suspicious of outsiders and one of the more notable Commanders Durant is currently leading the investigation. Durant has been seen to especially antagonize any non humans he comes in contact with and claims that all such creatures are suspects until proven otherwise. Several have been provoked into a fight according to rumors and ended up behind bars as a result.

Word has been spreading about the city that Durant's hunt for the murderer has taken a vicious turn. An elven man was beaten to death by Durant and his retinue, the official report stating that they were caught using fey magics to exploit and steal from citizens of the city. When confronted it is reported that the elf attempted to use his magics to attack the guardsmen leaving them no choice but to defend themselves. Witnesses to of the event are being tight lipped and none have refuted the official report.

Currently it is said that he is asking around after a half-elven girl with dark tresses that goes by the name of Rosalyn as a primary suspect in the investigation. She is wanted for questioning about the dismembered townsfolk though they have not yet posted an arrest warrant.

Rumors are making the rounds in Shadow that the slain elf was mutilated and defiled in the morgue, organs, flesh and bones stolen for gods know what purpose. There is a quiet rumbling in the underbelly of the city about the atrocities being perpetrated against the non humans and it seems many of the humans appear content to look past it as their own businesses suddenly have less competition and new venues open up for them to move into...

A great deal of strife has occurred in the city of Shadow recently with decapitated human heads being found in various shops around the city, placed on the shelves in a taunting manner to be found by horrified shoppers. Durant has declared these attacks as a deliberate assault on humankind in Shadow by lesser races jealous of human ingenuity and skill. He has doubled the size of the city guard, mostly with hand picked soldiers of his own and is redoubling his efforts in the investigation.

In addition known criminal and thief George was found in the main square of the city and when the guards attempted to apprehend him a massive battle ensued. Several guards were killed in the battle as well as a tiefling who was apparently drawn into the fight. George was eventually captured and arrested but has since escaped. Commander Durant is calling for his head and promises a swift execution should he be caught again.

It is being whispered around the city of Shadow that Durant has been seen meeting with Shades and may even have some business dealings with them. Official word is there is some form of agreement as far as investigating the murders in the city as the murderer may have originated in Tharis and moved on to Shadow when the Tharis law was closing in. Durant seems interested in keeping a tight handle on the situation and the Shades have reportedly not been allowed access to anything without a strict guard to oversee all activities.

Rumors of rebellion are spreading and it is said that a tribe of wood elves in the southern forests may be seeking retribution for some of their own who have been imprisoned while visiting the city.

In other news a guardsman has been found murdered in a side street, stabbed in the lung from behind and left to bleed out. There are currently no witnesses that have come forward but the guard are now on edge and the city seems on the edge of martial law.

A Shade envoy from Tharis was seen in the city recently with an escort of Shadow military. They were taken into the Church catacombs to investigate the corpses of the recently murdered townsfolk. The visitation was cut short by a brawl at the bar on the west side of the city which escalated into a full fledged riot. The Shades were forced out while the situation was resolved and Commander Durant mobilized the cities military to quickly squash the riot with minimum damage done.

The human folk of the city have been giving praise for Durants quick and efficient handling of the situation which minimized damages while ensuring many of those responsible are now in prison cells. To nobodies surprise many of those found responsible were non humans...

Reports are spreading around the city of Shadow that another battle broke out in the middle of the city square resulting in the death of several guards and the local collector. Witnesses say that the battle was started by a exotic looking human with silvery hair and who is rumored to have fey heritage. A spell causing monstrous black tentacles to appear and attack those present which escalated into an all out battle. Durant has made his stance clear that these sorts of events will get zero tolerance and has placed a bounty, dead or alive for all those involved. It is his belief that any of those involved could have withdrawn to prevent the continued violence but instead remained to murder citizens of Shadow in a protracted battle that he considers an attack on Shadow itself.

A bounty of 500,000 gold has been issued for the following individuals dead or alive

A lithe and wiry human with silvery hair pulled back into spikes (name: unknown)

A well dressed elf with green eyes and black hair (name: Cinque)

A small pale senzokuan man wearing a large rice hat (name: Xiongsi)

A terrifying aasimar with pale skin and blood-dipped white hair (name: Selucia)

A towering, muscular tiefling, with dark red skin, long, smoothly curved horns, glowing red eyes and golden hair (name: Bannic)

The following message has been recently posted as chaos descends on Shadow.

The people of Shadow face a graver threat now than ever, the Priestess known as Selucia of Jarmilas faith has gone mad and in response to being bountied for her murder in Shadow has chosen to return to the city and murder more of our guardsmen. After laying low over a dozen men she brutally removed the heads of three and left them in a sack at the west gate. Within she left a written challenge to the city and Commander Durant.

The price on Selucia's head has now tripled to 1.5 million gold as well as an offer of official position of Guardian of Shadow. We are in need of powerful individuals to protect our livelihood and if you can stand against one as mighty as Selucia of Jarmila we want you to stand with us.

The tumult in Shadow does not seem to be abating, the city government and military has instituted martial law and a strict curfew as a result of the murderous rampages of non-humans of late as well as the open bounty placed on Commander Durant himself.

Not all are dark tidings though, a celestial Deva calling himself Mal'kor the Malakhim of Jarmila has been seen moving through the city aiding those in need and healing the sick and injured. Those suffering under the oppressive regime most now whisper praises to Jarmila and her celestial servant.

The city of Shadow is celebrating as word is spreading that the head of the Terror of Jarmila has been brought in by the Shadovar known as Gaius. It is said he is still considering the offer to become the Guardian of Shadow but the people can sleep more soundly knowing that the Aasimar scourge has been brought to justice.

In the streets the people are conflicted as much good has been done for them by the Deva Mal'kor and he has publicly stated that this Aasimar witch is not one of the faith any longer and is in fact an enemy. However it is also circulating that this Jarmilan agent was sent to create the need for such healing in the first place to aid Jarmilas church in gaining a greater foothold in the city!

In addition it is said that much of the reward given for Selucias head has been put towards the families whom Selucia has left fatherless, Motherless and childless. This has only served to further split the cities opinion on the benevolence of Jarmilas faith and that of the mysterious Shadovar.

Smoke rises from the southern gates of Shadow as the city recovers from yet another attack. The Jarmillan Knight known as Cinque, and the demon known as Bannic are said to have charged the city with a dragon in tow, casting meteors upon the walls and firing arrows into the city at the city watch. Reports are circulating that there are dozens dead after their devastating attack and the only thing that prevented these monsters from destroying the city in its entirety are the Special Defense Force that Durant had secretly conscripted from the most elite of Shadows warriors and powerful wizards and sorcerers of the Mage consortium of Shadow.

Unfortunately the criminals managed to escape but the city has doubled the rewards for their heads to one million gold coins each.

This latest attack has further damaged the reputation of the church of Jarmilla in the city and much of the goodwill earned by Mal'kor seems to have been replaced by distrust and open resentment.

OOC Please treat the south gate of Shadow and the streets just inside it as devastated for the time being. Any who pass through can easily see the craters, collapsed buildings and crumbling portion of the south wall.

The city of Shadow has made its public response to yet another attack by a Jarmillan and elven agent. Five elven prisoners have been executed and hung from the southern walls overlooking the forest as a message to those who would attack the city to free their criminal companions. From the looks of the bodies, they did not die quickly...

The following has been publicly posted.

Citizens of Shadow, while we have experienced yet another dark day as again an agent of Jarmilla attacks our walls, bringing with him a demon and a dragon, it has also proven to be a day of pride. No more will we allow our city to be bullied by the egos of those who have grown so powerful that they think they can challenge an entire city, treating us like mere ants underfoot.

Today we have proven that a community coming together to protect itself from a common enemy is stronger than any handful of dragonslayers. With the combined efforts of our city guards elite and the most powerful members of our mage consortium we stopped a bloody rampage before it was able to progress much further than the city gates. While many brave soldiers lives were lost, they were successful in giving those lives to ensure that not one civilian was killed in the attack.

Let us remember these brave soldiers and their sacrifice and stand proudly for their sake.

While the vicious criminals have escaped, we have doubled the bounties on Cinque, Knight of Jarmilla and the Demon known as Bannic to one million gold coins. If the head of their pet dragon is brought in we will offer another five hundred thousand gold coins for its head as well. In response to this heinous attack, their elven allies who had been incarcerated for their criminal actions have been put to death. If Shadow is to lose lives, then those who attack us shall mourn in kind.

The City of Shadow has suffered a devastating blow as reports come in from all sides of the city. Several estates owned by persons of influence in the city, some even rumored to be on the city council have been attacked leaving dozens dead. An investigation has begun but already word is circulating that this was a retaliation from the elves for the execution of their criminal kin.

The following has been posted in Shadow:

Citizens of Shadow,

It is with a heavy heart that I must announce that the savage elves of Darkwood Forest have struck a terrible blow against the city. Four of our five council members are dead or missing, their estates ravaged and their servants massacred. The instruments used in these assassinations were all of elven make and several surviving eye witnesses have verified that the assassins were indeed elves. It is clear that our tolerance for these fey creatures has been misplaced, as inviting such alien beings to dwell and walk among us has led to nothing but hardship and suffering.

It is clear the council was not serving its purpose in protecting us or even themselves as they should and so I am stepping forward to take the mantle of Magistrate. The council will be no more and we will return to a more efficient form of governance that will not be held up by split decisions when immediate action must be taken.

As my first declaration, elven kind shall hereby be banned from entering our fair city. Any currently residing within the city have until sunrise to be gone from here. After that any found within the city walls will be put to death. If the elves think they have cowed us with their cowardly attack, they will soon learn just how wrong they are.

The banishment of the elves and half-elves of Shadow seems to have gone about without violence. The soldiers were combing the districts early in fact and many suspect that the new Magistrate intended to make extreme examples of any who remained after even a single sliver of light appeared on the horizon. If that was the case they were sorely disappointed as the districts they swept through were empty of elven kind long before their arrival.

Word is circulating among the lower class and non-human citizens that still remain that some elven lady has been flitting about, finding those who suffered most under the heels of Durant's military and whisking them away to parts unknown with promises of a new beginning. Many families vanished in the night with this mysterious benefactor who the people are calling the Moon Lily.

Those that did not vanish into the night with the mysterious Moon Lily weeks earlier were forced to pack up what they could carry as quickly as possible and leave the city. They were fortunate enough to be offered asylum by Priestess Rheyn, servant of Nimnavanon as well as an offer from the Deva Malkor, priest of Jarmilla. Given the distance to reach Jarmillas temple and the recent violence on the city at the hands of Jarmila's faithful they chose to make their way south to the temple of the Nature god.

First encounter with the underworld civilization of ratkin seems to have went poorly for Shadow. Many people have lost their lives in an attempt of invasion, many were infected with wererat plague.

Since intentions of the subterranean race have been made clear Shadow bans all ratkin and wererats, for the same reasons as they ban goblins or drow.

In the aftermath of the period of murder, mayhem and strife that has plagued the city of Shadow for some time, it seems that a new peace has settled upon the city. Citizens, tired of the constant calamities, have called for the formation of new council to be put in place that will ensure the peace and prosperity of the city going into the future.

Maverick D'Thawne has taken his place as the head of the council with heavy support from a number of well-renowned heroes.
Bennet Cantor has returned from his self-imposed exile to continue his duties now that elves are welcome once more.

The hardened elven Ranger-General (ret), known simply as Elendril, has been assigned as the new commander of the guard.

The city has announced that it intends to fill the other three council spots soon and anyone (of renown) interested in a council position should make their intentions known. (Mail to Ashra).
