An Earthquake Shakes the Mainland

Winterstime, 750 SG

In the heart of winter, in the dead of night, a tremor suddenly erupted from somewhere in the caverns deep below Tonovi. The mountain groaned and the earth trembled. Everyone, from the top of the Dagger reaches to the roots of Talzashaar's Teeth, felt the ground shake beneath them. In the northern cities of Tonovi, Torm and Nurval, windows broke from the tremors in the ground and a tidal wave erupted from the coast of Nurval, tipping one boat and damaging several others in Torm harbor. There were no other noticeable casualties, but many farmers are now spending their days locating panicked life-stock and repairing wooden sheds. Nobody has yet found the cause of the earthquake, but that same night, the shadows in every crook and cranny looked just a little brighter.

As a result, the northern cities have all dispatched teams of investigators to examine the cause of the tremor. A rumor resurfaces, whispers long kept in check by Tonovi Authorities, of something dark growing beneath the city, driving travelers and soldiers insane. The Duchess of Tonovi denies these rumors, just as they deny the interference of foreign investigators on their land.

The following morning, word comes from Antioch of a miracle. The spirit of their former guardian Kyra appeared by the gates, her translucent form glowing with the radiance of the rising sun. She touched the new guardian lightly upon the cheek and graced onlookers with one final warm and inviting smile, before transcending into the heavens above to rest in Jarmila's halls.

A Warm Spring

Post by kismet » 01 Apr 2020, 23:18

A VERY WARM SPRING

Springstime, 750 SG

Springtime has finally arrived, and after a chill winter ("though not as chill as the winters we used to have"), nobles and commoners alike are happy to cast off their winter coat and bask in the sun. As temperatures increase far above the normal level, however, people begin to wonder. Was spring always this warm? Surely, temperatures never used to be quite this high? ("Except for the spring of my youth, or thereabouts, of course, when the sun shone so hot it burnt the hair right off my head!") Farmers all around the realm are seeing their crops begin to bloom far too early. Fishermen are also reporting changes in fish migration patterns and in the wilds, animals are beginning to mate much earlier than usual. All in all, though, most people are just enjoying a bit of warmth and peace.

(OOC: You will not see any mechanical changes in the weather, please RP as though it is always at least 10 degrees warmer than the "weather command" tells you, and quite sunny.)

Odin Says: You will notice mechanical changes to the weather command. Use it.

A Terrible Draught

Post by kismet » 01 May 2020, 00:38

Growingdays, 750 SG

As the excruciatingly hot weather continues, the effects of the draught are rearing their ugly heads. Reports of heat-related fatalities are rolling in, especially among the old and the poor. Bush fires have become common, but most have so far been kept in check. Failed crops, dried up rivers and decreasing game in otherwise bountiful areas are quickly leading to what could be a realm-wide famine among the common folk. In response, temples of many faiths are setting up food-stations in city centers and other populated areas, sponsored by the Gods themselves through their faithful clerics.

The less organized races are also becoming desperate, and there are rumors of a severe increase in attacks on caravans, travelers and villages. City states across the realm call upon brave individuals to quell the numbers of beasts residing in their respective regions, lest the roads be overrun by them.

In other news, a ship carrying supplies from Sindh to Torm has gone missing off the coast of Tharis and in Tabor a 500 gold reward has been issued for the safe return of the Prince's favorite doll.

OOC: I have temporarily changed a few rooms to reflect the draught, but please RP as though it is affecting vegetation everywhere, as well as drying up rivers in the south and melting snow in the north.

A Terrible Storm!

A TERRIBLE STORM!

24 Harvestdays, 750 SG

A pillar of lightning struck up from somewhere near Torm this fateful night, and cracked the sky asunder! A terrible thunderstorm followed, the likes of which has not been seen since the Sundering of 0 SG! Lightning is thrown across the sky, striking in chaotic directions, even upwards! Rain hammers down, sending chunks of ice and rocks of molten lava crashing into the ground. A dangerous gale picks up, the whipping wind strong enough to shatter houses and uproot oak trees. Far below the earth trembles and far out to sea, a maelstrom gathers power as the storm spreads from the mainland, raining its havoc upon the islands.

Lightning has struck in several places, causing short bursts of wild fires to havoc the dry lands. Thankfully, the rain keeps the fire in check for now! The wise hide inside and bar their doors, waiting for the worst to pass.

OOC: The storm will continue until further notice, though you may not always see a mechanical effect. Please RP accordingly. Thank you!

The Storm Rages On!

Post by kismet » 20 May 2020, 19:08

THE STORM RAGES ON

Colddays, 750 SG

As the elemental storm reaches its second month of continuous onslaught, the numbers of casualties continue to rise. Rumors of floods and wild-fires abound, along with whispers of severely decreased city food supplies. Panic threatens to grip even the most blasé of citizens. This year's harvest is lost and few dare brave the rough seas to fish. Whispers of ghostly pirate ships patrolling the waves further deters all but the most desperate.

Many cities have seen it necessary to defend their borders from the storm by employing the various mage guilds across the realm. As a result, some town squares have become safe havens for citizens and denizens alike, attracting an increasing number of refugees, at the cost of depleted funds. The clergy of nearby temples are working around the clock to limit the risk of starvation where they can.

Most temples have put up divine wards as a defense against the storms, which is also attracting refugees. Similarly, frequent visitors to Moonstone will find the valley defended, at least for the time being. Of the cities, Antioch has the strongest defenses, while in Tharis only those that seek loyal servitude to Lord Shadow are granted respite. Meanwhile, frequent visitors to Nurval may have heard rumors of something deliciously sinister brewing below the surface, while citizens of Kinaro and Barak Morndin are finding the mountain to be less stable than usual.

With so much of the realm's resources tied up in simply staving off the worst effects of the storm, temples and cities alike are calling out for anyone of a sound mind and a brave heart to help tame the elements.

OOC: A small selection of rooms have temporary descriptions. Please use the weather command to gauge the state of the weather when outside! Characters of all levels and alignments are welcome to get involved, though one involved character per player would be preferable. Talk to your fellow players in character and avatarmail if interested.

A Sudden Chill

Post by kismet » 24 May 2020, 21:22

A SUDDEN CHILL

Winterstime, 751 SG

Following the volcanic eruption on Tonerra, temperatures all across the realm have plummeted overnight. The world now seems thrown into a bitingly cold winter. While not abnormal this time of year, folks say the temperatures are now even lower than they used to be. Many are comparing it to the winter we had some years ago, just before Ryorik rose to power. Magma and fire no longer falls from the sky, replaced instead with black and blistering snow, as the crystals blend with the ash-covered skies on their way towards the earth, blanketing all in snow the shade of charcoal.
